Medium red. Nose shows an almost candied ripeness, with hints of licorice root and smoky oak. Densely packed, broad and dry, with notes of strawberry, underbrush and mushroom. This liqueur-like wine is still rather bound up, but I would like to have seen a bit more verve.

Red-ruby. Aromas of blackberry liqueur, minerals, dark chocolate, spices and pepper. Ripe, sweet and rather showy, with fruit-driven flavors of dark cherry, minerals and chocolate. Finishes with noteworthy persistence of mineral and spice flavors. A very good showing.
A wonderfully seductive nose of plum and spicy black cherry framed in obvious wood lead to very earthy, sweet and intense, gorgeously complex medium full flavors and excellent length. The overall impression is not as elegant as that of the Couchereaux but there is perhaps more depth of material here. A choice. Allen Meadows, Burghound, Apr01,2005.
