The 1999 Chambertin is another huge, massively tannic wine that needs time to fully come together. Deep, dense and inward, the Chambertin captures the structural intensity and pure power that are such typical attributes of the vintage. Although it clearly needs time, the 1999 is super-impressive today.

Less immediately dramatic and concentrated than the 2010 Chambertin. The difference between the Mazis and Chambertin is less marked in the 1999s than in the 2010s. More obvious acidity and less concentration than in the 2010 Chambertin. Already flirtatious, which is not what one would most immediately expect of a Chambertin. Still pretty impressive though… (JR)
The 1999 Chambertin Grand Cru is a rich, dramatic wine, bursting with aromas of sweet cassis, rich soil, cedary new oak and incense. On the palate, it's full-bodied, ample and textural, with a firm chassis of structuring tannins and a long, stony finish. This Chambertin isn't as seamless or weightlessly intense as more recent vintages from Domaine Leroy, but it's a very exciting wine.
