Produced from 60 year old vines, the black/ruby-colored Pommard Rugiens has over-ripe cassis and blackberry aromas infused with violets and traces of toasted oak. A massive blockbuster, it is full-bodied, silky-textured, and saturates the palate with layers of black currants, cherries, licorice, dried plums, and leather. The incredibly long finish allows a glimpse at this formidable wine's copious yet supple tannins. Projected maturity: 2002-2009. A Patrick Lesec Selection (Paris Fax # 011-33-1-42-84-38-22), various American importers (starting with the 1997 vintage Laurent will be represented by a number of US importers/brokers, including Lesec, Jeffrey Davies, and Martin-Scott.

Very good deep red. Superripe, perfumed aromas of black raspberry, black cherry and smoky oak. Concentrated, silky and light on its feet; pungent note of oak. A thoroughly harmonious, fresh wine with no rough edges. Very long and subtle on the back end, with suave tannins.
