Deep garnet in color, the 2003 RWT Shiraz is a little shut down to begin, opening out to a savory and meaty aromatic core with gentle black cherry preserves and dried mulberry notes plus a whiff of roses. Full-bodied, concentrated, rich and seductive, it is drinking beautifully but still has a long life ahead (as with 2002). It ends long with fine tannins texturing the opulent finish.

Dark red. Smoky, toasty aromas of blackberry, creme de cassis, licorice candy, cappuccino, mocha and fresh rose. Broad and sweet, the fruit taking a turn to the red side, showing ripe raspberry and red plum preserve flavors accented by spicy oak. While undeniably ripe, the fruit has clarity and plenty of energy. Finishes quite long, with the tannins sneaking in but not at the expense of the fruit.
The powerful, complex, dark purple-hued 2003 Shiraz RWT, which comes from the Barossa and spends 15 months in 70% new and 30% used 300 liter French oak barrels, boasts blackberry, kirsch liqueur, mulberry, soy, and road tar aromas. Full-bodied, dense, and rich with beautifully integrated oak, it is more evolved and forward than the Magill or the Grange. It can be drunk now or cellared for 10-15+ years. Robert Parker, Oct 2006
