Barossa

Close to Adelaide, the Barossa encompasses both the Barossa Valley and Eden Valley. Shiraz steals the headlines here, although you’ll find the world’s oldest Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvèdre vines here, while the Eden Valley’s Rieslings rival those of the Clare Valley further north.

About The wines of the Barossa

A short drive north from South Australia’s capital, Adelaide, the Barossa Valley is perhaps the state’s most famous – and most historic – wine region. The first vines were planted here in the mid-19th century by German immigrants, establishing a firm culture of wine-making and -drinking. Having dodged the wrath of phylloxera, the Barossa is home to the oldest Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvèdre vines in the world, which, produce richly concentrated, profound red wines.
