The 2010 Avvoltore is magnificent in 2010. Layers of blue and black fruit, smoke, tobacco, licorice and incense seem to jump from the glass in a full-bodied, racy Avvoltore that hits all the right notes. Intense and opulent yet backed up with considerable structure, the 2010 is simply dazzling at this stage. The blend is 75% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Syrah.

A wine with its own cult following, the 2010 Avvoltore is a dark and penetrating wine with beautifully balanced characteristics of black cherry, leather, spice and a touch of bitter chocolate. The bright intensity of the 2010 vintage gives it a convincing competitive edge. Soft tannins and a super-velvety mouthfeel add to the appeal. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2025. The Moris family enjoys a long winemaking tradition that spans many generations. They own an enormous amount of land with 37 hectares of vines in the Massa Marittima area and 33 hectares – called Poggio La Mozza – in the Morellino di Scansano denomination. They also run a fantastic agriturismo should you plan to visit. Importer: Polaner Selections; www.polanerselections.com
