Punteggio 16.5/20 · Da bere 2016-2030, James Lawther MW, jancisrobinson.com, Mar 2023

65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc. Aged 15 months in oak barrels (80% new). Deep, bright garnet hue with a touch of brick at the rim. Reserved and stony on the nose, even a touch austere. Muscular and firm on the palate, the tannins almost dominating the fruit. Slightly dry finish. A rugged beauty, providing the fruit holds. (JL)

This is a vintage that is tasting great right now, and I definitely suggest getting out any bottles that you have and starting to explore them. Plenty of concentrated cassis and blackberry fruits, waves of fresh mint leaf and eucalyptus on the finish, tannins that are beginning to fully melt into the structure but still confidently holding everything in place. This is juicy and enjoyable. 80% new oak. Jean-Rene Matignon technical director.

Deep ruby with some blackish notes. A bit of evolution at the rim. Marine notes on the nose – oyster shells? Clearly still evolving (more youthful than the Pavillon Rouge 2004 served alongside it) with good concentration and the tannins just about to melt into the background. Lightly dusty on the slightly dry end. Pretty smart and classic Pauillac. Needs food. (JR)
