The 1972 Clos de Tart Grand Cru does not quite startle like the 1973 or 1974. It shows noticeable bricking on the rim, and has a fragrant bouquet with a touch of tomato vine, indicating that the fruit did not quite achieve full ripeness. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin and slightly balsamic in style, revealing a bit of cola on the finish. Maybe there is a touch of dilution here from over-cropping, but this is certainly a wine I would not refuse. Tasted at the Clos de Tart vertical at Ten Trinity in London.
