Good bright red. Bitter cherry and licorice on the nose; as much red as black in character. Bright, pure and sharply focused, with limited flesh but excellent cut to the sappy black cherry fruit. Finishes with slightly drying tannins and very good length. Classic 2012 dolcetto.

Dark blueish crimson. Very reduced nose. Difficult to judge. Sweet and explosive. (JR)
Deep medium ruby. Crushed blackberry, black cherry, violet, licorice and bitter chocolate on the nose. Juicy and lively but supple rather than hard, in spite of its rather lean style and modest flesh. Still a bit youthfully tight and yet I wanted a bit more energy on the back end.
The 2010 Dolcetto d'Alba is a gorgeous wine with the trademark Altare richness, plenty of varietal character and fabulous depth. Blueberries, currants, spices and licorice stain the palate on the intense finish. Year in and year out, Altare's Dolcetto is one of the best in the region, as it is again in 2010. The Dolcetto is often one of my favorite Altare wines. It also ages far better than most people might expect.
