Note di degustazione
In 1999 the Barolo Riserva Rocche dell'Annunziata is surprisingly virile and potent, with fabulous richness and enough pure intensity to continue to drink well for a number of years. The red-toned, floral flavors are remarkably fresh and vibrant. I find a little more finesse in the Carobric and Bric del Fiasc, but the Rocche dell'Annunziata is undoubtedly terrific. Some of the silkiness and pure sensuality typical of this La Morra site is missing, so readers should expect a powerhouse Barolo here. (AG)

The 1999 Rocche dell'Annunziata is another stellar effort from Scavino. It offers deeply expressive aromatics along with layers of fruit that unfold as this wine sits in the glass, showing exquisite balance between its big, full-bodied personality and delicate, nuanced flavors. As is typical of the wines from this vineyard, the 1999 is delicious even today, yet promises to evolve beautifully for another 10-15 years.
Dark ruby. The seductive 1999 Rocche is simply superb. It opens with a captivatingly expressive floral nose that melds seamlessly onto a vibrant palate packed with layers of perfumed dark red fruit and minerals, with exceptional length, fine tannins and a sweet, long finish. Although this Barolo will continue to evolve in the bottle it is nearly impossible to resist today. A recent bottle of the 1990 was youthful and full of life and I imagine that this 1999 will drink well to at least age 20, if not beyond.
