The 1993 Chianti Classico Riserva Vigna del Sorbo is another superb wine. A bit wilder and more sauvage than most wines of the period, the 1993 remains fresh, vibrant. Game, tar, licorice, smoke and black cherries flow through to the powerful, structured finish. The 1993 doesn't quite have the finesse of the 1994 or 1995, but is still in great shape, even after all these years.

The dark ruby-colored 1993 Chianti Classico Riserva Vigna del Sorbo possesses an intense raspberry/cherry and earthy-scented nose intermingled with scents of spicy vanillin from new oak casks. The wine is medium-bodied and tannic, as well as rich, firmly structured, spicy, and long. It will benefit from another 1-2 years of cellaring and last for up to a decade. Situata vicino a Panzano in Chianti, la tenuta Fontodi fu acquisita dalla famiglia Manetti nel 1968, che ne ha accresciuto la fama. Oggi è rinomata per il Flaccianello della Pieve, un Sangiovese Super Tuscan in purezza, prodotto per la prima volta nel 1981.
