The 2011 Chianti Classico is another delicious, entry-level offering. Here the fruit is rich, dark and voluptuous. At the same time, the aromatics have plenty of upper register brilliance. In other words, the 2011 is a wine of balance above all else.

The 2011 Chianti Classico (with 10% Canaiolo) is aged in neutral oak and botte. You really get a sense of Sangiovese here, with playful notes of wild berry and grilled herbs. The mouthfeel is compact, crisp and silky. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020. Castello di Monsanto makes wines that I buy and drink often.
