The 2007 Chianti Classico is a soft, fragrant Chianti bursting with ripe fruit, licorice and flowers. This vinous, generous Chianti is best enjoyed on the young side. It is a wonderful effort at this level.

It is a wonderful effort at this level. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2012. This is another set of delicious wines from Monsanto. Unfortunately the estate did not produce its flagship Il Poggio in 2005, but the strength of the Chianti Classico Riserva in 2006 bodes very well for that vintage’s Il Poggio. Cask sample. Oenologist Andrea Giovannini Medium concentrated crimson. Slightest hint of farmyard suppressing the fruit at this stage. Same restraint character on the palate with elevated acidity and drying tannins. Old school, and needs time. No indication of alcohol content. (WS)
