Very ripe aromas of apricot and peach. Thick, dense and ripe, with a sweetness of fruit that almost suggests some residual sugar. And yet this comes across as less exotic than "regular" Fourchaume thanks to its strong underlying minerality. Very rich, fat wine with grand cru texture and a long, highly aromatic finish. I'd enjoy this one before the Montee de Tonnerre.

Spicy, toasty minerals can be found in the aromatic profile of the 2002 Chablis Fourchaume Vignoble de Vaulorent (domaine). Plush, ample, and rich, it is a wine of outstanding depth, ripeness, and length. Loads of slate and minerals are found in its soft medium-bodied personality as well as in its impressively long finish. Anticipated maturity: now-2012. While Bernard Hervet, who oversees both Bouchard and William Fevre, prefers the 2000 vintage in Chablis “for its minerality and austerity,” your author believes 2002 is the finest set of wines to have been produced at this estate/negociant firm in many years. Precise aromas of lime, ripe apple, minerals and talc. Very rich, ripe and spicy, with a hint of honeysuckle. Chewy and fat, but almost shockingly mineral for Fourchaume. A lovely combination of silky texture and underlying stoniness. The dusty finish goes on and on. This marne-rich south-facing parcel in Fourchaume resembles the heart of the grand cru Vaudesir, notes Hervet, and is actually closer in style to the grand crus than to typical Fourchaume.
