Note di degustazione
A bright straw color, the 2022 Terre Siciliane Carricante is from a warmer vintage and takes on more tropical notes, with hints of beeswax, pineapple, salted lemon, and citrus oils. It has a slightly rounder feel, though it remains refreshing. It’s delightful now but should also drink well over the coming 6-8 years. Albarelli Di Giodo is the sister estate to Giodo in Montalcino and is managed by Carlo Ferrini and his daughter Bianca. I was able to taste three cuvées from this new estate.

So fragrant on the nose, wild white flowers mixed with dried herbs and aromatic peaches and lychees. Crisp yet round, a lovely burst of citrus juiciness on the palate with high acidity that zings and then settles revealing more creamy white peach and pear with subtle wet stone saltiness and herbal spice around the edges. Feels like a serious, gourmet wine, with body, structure and yet lots of life. Ends mineral and salty, I love it, with a flash of heat and southern Italy spice about it. 100% Carricante vines, averaging 50 years in age, planted between 800-900 in altitude. Ageing six months in steel tanks on the lees and 10 months in bottle before release.
White flowers, white pear, and juice-drenched peach, everything here is dense yet light, tiptoeoing through the palate, then scraping through the volcanic slate and graphite. Delicously gentle and then savage by turns. Fermented in steel tanks, then 6 months on its lees, moving into concrete vats before bottling, held back at the propery in bottle until release. Unoaked.
