Healthy dark red. Coolish, vibrant aromas and flavors of black cherry and stony minerality. Juicy and penetrating, offering lovely definition and energy in the mouth. Finishes with surprisingly supple tannins and excellent length. Current Bouchard winemaker Frédéric Weber told me that he was still at wine school in Dijon in 2001 but that he has a clear memory of the big hail storm at the beginning of August, which was especially damaging to Volnay and Meursault.

Medium red. Plum, redcurrant, tobacco and smoky, spicy oak on the nose. Began somewhat reduced and closed, hinting at black fruits, tar and cinnamon. Then grew richer and sweeter with aeration. Still, this solidly built Beaune has some youthfully tough tannins that call for a few years of additional cellaring.
Healthy crimson, low-key nose and at this stage still quite grassy but lots of broad fruit. More taffeta texture. Not sumptuous but correct. (JR)
Medium-deep red. Aromatic nose of small dark berries, coffee, smoke and gingerbread. Sweet, minerally and seamless; less obviously fleshy than the Clos de la Mousse but perhaps more nuanced on the back end. Tannins are fine. This will ultimately be more complex but will reach its peak later.
