The 2020 Le Châtelet exhibits aromas of dark berries, plums and toasty new oak, followed by a medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy but somewhat chunky and extracted palate. It derives from holdings between Beaséjour Bécot and Clos Fourtet, where the plateau's soils are sandier.

Another head-turning beauty in this incredible vintage is the 2020 Château Le Chatelet, which is based on 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc from the upper limestone plateau. A fresh, focused, serious wine that's going to reward cellaring, it has ripe red and black fruits, some floral and spicy nuances, obvious minerality, and perfectly integrated oak. Aged in 40% new barrels with a small portion in amphora (as well as larger barrels), this pure, chiseled, incredibly impressive Saint-Emilion needs to be forgotten for 4-5 years, and it will shine over the following 15-20 years from cold cellars. It's a gorgeous wine.
The 2020 Le Chatelet is very perfumed on the nose with red berry fruit, patisserie and orange pith scents. It is missing a degree of focus, feels just a little one-dimensional. The palate is quite sweet on the entry, toasty red fruit, grainy tannins with a rather oaky and slightly raisined finish. Early-drinking.
