Punteggio 91-93/100 · Da bere 2033-2050, Neal Martin, May 2026

The 2025 Petit Gravet Ainé has a powerful nose, with damson and fresh fig scents, though it feels a little too pushed for the vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins, quite a bit of extraction, although there is an underlying sapidity that keeps it fresh. It will need a bit of time, but it should eventually mellow.

A Cabernet Franc-dominant blend of 90% Cabernet Franc and 10% Merlot that's being raised in 50% new French oak, the 2025 Château Petit Gravet Aîné offers gorgeous red and black cherries, graphite, spicy oak, and Asian spices on the nose. It's medium to full-bodied on the palate, with a pure, layered mouthfeel, plenty of fine, polished tannins, and a great finish. Checking in at 13.5% alcohol, it's an impressive barrel sample that should represent a smoking value.

The 2025 Petit Gravet Aîné is gorgeous. Lifted floral overtones, blood orange, chalk, mint, white pepper and vibrant red-toned fruit sizzle on the palate. This understated Saint-Émilion really has energy and verve. It's never the most obvious wine, but it's always classy and full of personality.
