Punteggio 92-94/100 · Da bere 2031-2050, Neal Martin, May 2026

The 2025 Malartic Lagravière has a pretty nose with pure blackberry, cedar and graphite notes, turning more floral and Margaux-like with time in the glass. The oak is very well integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, gentle grip, fine acidity and a smooth finish that has a patina of new oak that needs to be integrated with a couple of years in bottle. Promising, but has it got something extra up its sleeve?

Bright cassis, graphite, candied violets, and exotic flower nuances all emerge from the 2025 Château Malartic-Lagravière, which checks in as a blend of 57.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, and 0.5% Cabernet Franc, all of which is being raised in 50% new French oak. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has a pure, focused mouthfeel, fine, polished tannins, and a great finish. It's a beautiful, layered, pretty Pessac-Léognan with remarkable charm and character.

This is so classy, with polish, transparency, a medium body and fresh acidity. Linear and racy, with a bright, icy finish and a steely and lightly bitter character at the end. An outstanding white.

The 2025 Malartic Lagravière is a dark, sumptuous beauty. Black cherry, menthol, licorice, dried herbs, chocolate and cloves convey virile, almost somber, intensity. Muscular tannins add to that impression. The 2025 is going to need time to be at its most expressive, but it has a ton of potential. Tasted three times.
