Punteggio 90-92/100 · Da bere 2030-2046, Neal Martin, May 2026

The 2025 Bonalgue marks a century of ownership by the Audy family. It was aged in 47% new oak, with some WineGlobe and newly introduced sandstone jars. It has a tightly wound bouquet with raspberry and wild strawberry fruit, sous-bois and light minty scents that open with time in the glass. Fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded, polished tannins, demonstrating more density than the previous vintage, with gentle grip, lightly spiced with white pepper, cinnamon and clove. Fine cohesion on the brisk and lively finish, this Pomerol should drink well for 15 to 20 years. 13.1% alcohol.

A Merlot-dominant blend of 93% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc that's being raised 18 months in 47% new French oak with the balance in once-used barrels and a small portion in stoneware jars, the 2025 Château Bonalgue is a nicely focused, seamless Pomerol with ripe red and black fruits, leafy herbs, and ample spicy, floral nuances on the nose. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, balanced, and classy, with the seamless, polished style of the vintage. It checks in at 13.1% alcohol with a pH of 3.6.

This shows a silky fruit expression, a medium to full body and firm, granular tannins. Rich and structural with tension.

The 2025 Bonalgue offers up an enticing mix of vibrant red and blue fruit. Medium in body and quite energetic, Bonalgue is also bright and finely sculpted. I especially admire the energy here. This is still coming together in the cellar, but it appears to offer quite a bit of potential. The blend of deep gravelly soils plus small-grained gravel on clay with sandy subsoils yields a wine of notable complexity and character.
