2023 AXR Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon

Sourced from the E Block of this historic vineyard, AXR's 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon comes from old vines planted in a north-south orientation. One suspects that in a cool year like this one, shade cloth was less necessary than typical. Certainly, there's no sense of excessive sun, just a delicate hint of mint paired with mixed red and black cherries, plus scents of suede, loam and dried spices. Full-bodied, rich and expansive on the palate, it's vanilla-stained, velvety and plush, with a lingering finish. This is a wonderful effort from winemaker Jean Hoefliger and the viticultural team at Beckstoffer.
