Tasted blind. Pale and evolved ruby. Smells of old rope! Then impressive spread of ripe fruit on palate entry and real focus. There is structure here. Not overdone. (JR)

The second wine of Château Le Crock, the 2021 Château La Croix (Saint-Estèphe) offers up attractive red fruits, spice, and sappy, green flower notes in a medium-bodied, elegant, nicely balanced package. This charming, easygoing, delicious Saint-Estèphe will evolve nicely over the coming 7-8 years or more.
The 2021 La Croix de Gay offers up aromas of dark berries, cherries and espresso roast, followed by a medium-bodied, ample and polished palate that's charming and seamless, with a pretty core of fruit and a moderately intense finish. It will offer attractive drinking over the near term.
95% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc. Mid garnet. Sweet and spicy on the nose but with a suggestion of the vintage's leafy character. Dry, a bit lean on the mid palate, with not quite enough fruit to fill out the structure. (JH)
