2009 Chambolle Musigny Les Baudes

The 2009 Chambolle-Musigny Les Baudes is sensual, rich and totally inviting. Sweet red berries, flowers, mint and hard candy are some of the notes that take shape in the glass. Here, too, there is more than enough freshness and minerality for the wine to drink well for a number of years. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2029. Barthod’s 2009s are just as impressive from bottle as they were from barrel. Barthod and her husband Louis Boillot told me they moved up their harvest date by four days in 2009 because the fruit was ripening quickly. That turns out to have been a very wise choice. Dark red. Very ripe aromas of griotte cherry, prune, wild herbs and menthol; shows a distinctly medicinal Bonnes-Mares-like aspect. Then supple, broad and full in the mouth, quite dry in a classical way. Plenty of mid-palate richness here but not a bit heavy. A rather virile style, finishing long and savory.
