The 2023 White Wine Compagni Portis is a gorgeous, exotic wine. Orchard fruit, lemon confit, exotic floral notes and tangerine are all lifted in the glass. This ethereal Gewürztraminer/Trousseau Gris/Riesling-based field blend is a total delight. Blocked malolactic fermentation keeps the flavors bright. This was the second-latest harvest at Compagni Portis; only the 2011 was picked later. Superb.

The 2023 Compagni Portis is a brilliant silver/straw color, and the nose is fresh and tropical, with a dewy freshness and a floral perfume of guava, white grapefruit, white currants, and fresh flowers. Medium-bodied, it has a weightless and silky texture, with a lovely, elegant finish. A lovely wine through and through, it’s drinking beautifully now and will drink well over the next several years. Mike Officer’s 2023s are exceptional and should not be missed. Backed by his decades-long dedication to seeking out and championing exceptional sites and farmers, these wines deliver hedonistic pleasure and intellectual curiosity in spades. Not to mention, they far overdeliver for the price points.
