Punteggio 88/100 · Da bere 2022-2033, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2020

Bright medium ruby. Musky herbs, cassis leaf, black cherry, menthol and black licorice on the nose; less weedy than the basic Napa Valley Cabernet bottling. Richer and sweeter on the front half; also more pliant and deep, but still with a clear peppery herb character that accentuates the wine's acidity. I find both of these wines too green for the vintage, and a bit out of whack. This is long, and has more mid-palate stuffing for its tannins, but still betrays a sour streak throughout that limits its appeal. Tannins build with air. Still quite youthful but will it become more appealing? Right now it's brooding and a bit brutal. A second sample of roughly equal quality was a bit wilder.

Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2015-2018, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Nov 2013

Black fruit, smoke, licorice, menthol and cloves all take shape in the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon The Core. A dark, voluptuous wine, the 2010 is built on pure power. The Core isn't materially better than the other wines in the range, it just has more of everything. This virile Cabernet Sauvignon should drink beautifully once the massive, imposing tannins start to settle down a bit. The rich, deeply spiced finish suggests a bright future.

Punteggio 96/100 · Da bere 2013-2033, Robert Parker, Oct 2013

The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon The Core (124 cases) is a stunning effort boasting an inky/blue/purple color as well as abundant notes of acacia flowers, licorice, black currants, blackberries and subtle oak. The wine is full-bodied and rich with its tannins largely concealed by an extravagant cascade of fruit and glycerin. While it came in at 15% natural alcohol, there is not a hint of heat or astringency in the flavors, texture or finish. Revealing supple tannins and richness without thickness or heaviness, this gorgeous wine should age effortlessly for 15-20 years. Tel. (707) 259-1681
