The 2023 Grenache, resulting from both unusually high yields and exceptional quality for its variety this harvest, sets a benchmark for the region and exemplifies the grape's profile when handled with balance. It offers a weightlessly intense and fragrant nose of perfectly ripe red fruits, fresh herbs, dried citrus rinds and anise, leading to a polished, tensile and buoyant palate. The wine ends with a long, soaring finish driven by fresh acidity and chalky tannins, then lingers with retronasal perfume. Fortunately, 2,100 cases were produced this vintage, roughly double the normal amount.

Certified regenerative (ROC), biodynamic (Demeter) and organic (CCOF). Pale, verging on medium ruby. Despite the challengingly hot vintage this has fresh, punchy strawberry fruit with only a touch of sweetness to the nose. Mineral earthiness and light spice. Fairly intense tannin that climbs the gums but is fine-grained and neatly balanced against fresh acidity. This will hold up well. (SCJ)
The 2023 Grenache displays a lovely savoriness as dried strawberries mix with peppery herbs and dusty violet tones. A balanced inner sweetness and creamy feel are present, yet the wine remains lifted and spry as ripe blackberry fruits slowly saturate. Slightly chewy and gently tannic, it finishes with wonderful length and hints of licorice and spice. Frankly speaking, I would never peg this cool-toned and precise Grenache as a child of Paso Robles. Beautifully done.
