Da bere 2035-2055, FINE+RARE, Nov 2025

The 2024 Chambertin from Domaine des Chézeaux is a commanding, very powerful expression of the appellation, rightly earning its status as the king of the cellar. Drawn from old vines situated between Domaine Mortet and Domaine Leroy, this cuvée was produced in only one barrel, underscoring both its rarity and concentration. The wine opens with a deep, brooding aromatic profile, where dark, rich fruit tones dominate, framed by well-integrated oak that adds breadth rather than overt sweetness. On the palate, it is creamy and round, yet unmistakably rich and dense, delivering an imposing core of fruit with gravitas and authority. Despite its power, there is a remarkable sense of balance, with a mouth-watering, salivating energy that brings lift, nuance and length. This is a profoundly structured Chambertin, intense and introspective, yet layered with finesse and intrigue. A rare and serious wine, built for long ageing, it promises to unfold majestically from 2035 onwards, rewarding patience with depth, complexity and quiet grandeur.

There is just one barrel of the 2024 Chambertin Grand Cru this year. There is very good intensity on the nose that soaks up the oak with style, dark plummy fruit, crushed stone, iris flower and light estuarine scents. The palate is medium-bodied with more density than the Clos Saint-Denis, smooth in texture, sorbet-fresh, structured with a sense of prowess on the finish that I admire. This has a lot of potential.

Domaine des Chezeaux

This Gevrey-Chambertin property was founded in 1982 but the vines were leased to other producers. As of 2021, that’s all changed, with Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat’s Charles van Canneyt and his wife Anne-Sophie having purchased the property. This is undoubtedly an address to watch.
