An outstanding, luxurious, almost silky red that nevertheless packs in the tannic structure of a great cabernet sauvignon. Blended with 20% cabernet franc and 2% petit verdot. Perfumed, complex, floral, minty and delicious. Black cherries, cocoa, blueberries and spearmint expand on the palate and linger in the finish. Drinkable now, but best from 2030.

From a three-acre site in Calistoga, the 2021 Proprietary Red Wine Engelhard Vineyard is mainly Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec. All co-fermented, it offers up scents of bright cherries balanced by hints of thyme, sage and rosemary. It's impressively full-bodied and plush yet balanced, with a long, velvety finish that reverberates with complex echoes of fruit and savory herbs.
Cassis, Griotte cherries, tobacco leaf, sandalwood, dried herbs, and chocolate notes all emerge from the 2021 Proprietary Red Wine Engelhard Vineyard, a full-bodied, ultra-pure red blend that has building yet fine tannins and one hell of a great finish. Mostly Cabernet Sauvignon yet blended with smaller amounts of other Bordeaux varieties, from a single vineyard in Calistoga, this heavenly red blend will benefit from just a few years of bottle age and cruise for over two decades in cold cellars.
The 2021 Proprietary Red Wine Howell Mountain is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from David Abreu's Las Posadas ranch. Silky and pliant, with terrific depth, the 2021 is positively stellar. The energy and tension of Franc is palpable. Bright acids and veins of tannin extend the finish effortlessly. This is brilliant stuff from winemaker Nigel Kinsman.
