Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2027-2047, Jeb Dunnuck, Jul 2025

From the lower part of the vineyard, with more richness and depth, the 2023 Pinot Noir BDR is a deep red color and opens to dark notes of cherries, dark berries, mossy earth, wild herbs, and dark earth. Full-bodied, it has ample fruit on the palate with a dark mineral undercurrent. Tightly coiled and nervous, with a structured grip, it’s going to benefit from another year in bottle, when I anticipate it will improve. Drink 2027-2047. Founded in 2007, the Boars' View estate was planted by Ulises Valdez with the help of Thomas Rivers Brown, in the same geological bowl as Marcassin in Fort Ross-Seaview. The nine acres of the property planted to vines are mostly Pinot Noir, with a small amount of Chardonnay. The wine style is a significant departure from the supple and elegant wines of Rivers Marie in that they are modeled after the aesthetic of Schrader’s style of Cabernet. These are brawny wines with a more obvious stamp of oak influence and opulence and are reflective of their more mountainous, coastal terrain. The 2023 vintage highlights the the more sauvage and savory elements of this site with fantastic clarity.
