Punteggio 89-92/100 · Da bere 2000-2012, Pierre Rovani, Jun 1997

Displaying mouth-watering aromas of grilled meats, smoke, blackberries and red currants, the Chapelle-Chambertin possesses a dense, silky, full-bodied palate replete with red cherries, herbs and admirably well-integrated oat notes of vanilla and bacon. Concentrated and powerful, yet delineated, feminine and elegant, this exceptional wine has the requisite tannins for extended cellaring yet also possesses the luscious forward fruit desired for early drinking. Drink it between 2000-2012. This note is the result of tastings I did in Burgundy between January 7 and January 29. The wine was tasted from cask, not bottle. Pinot Noir, a fragile varietal, reacts poorly to fining, filtration, and careless bottling techniques, I recommend caution when considering buying a red burgundy based on cask samples. I called it as I tasted, and hope the bottled wine reflects the quality of the samples I was provided. A Patrick Lesec Selection (Paris Fax: 011-33-1-42-84-38-22), and in Massachusetts: Classic Wine Imports, Boston, MA; tel (617) 731-6644.

Healthy ruby-red. More reticent, cooler aromas of black cherry, roasted coffee and faint game. Finer and silkier on the palate; precise and reserved. Finishes quite subtle and long, with dusty, tongue-coating tannins. Classy juice.
