Medium red. Knockout, very ripe aromas of framboise, pepper, roasted herbs, coffee and smoke. Sweet and dense but with terrific vinosity and thrust. The black raspberry fruit is complicated by musky flowers, iron, minerals, pepper and red licorice. Finishes with big, dusty tannins and impressive energy and length. Full-blown Bonnes-Mares with plenty of vineyard character.

Deep ruby-red. Brooding aromas of dark berries, mocha, brown spices and minerals. Large-scaled, dense and sweet, with the strong spice character following through on the palate. Seemed a bit sweet and obvious at first, but there's nothing heavy about this. Ultimately very fine-grained and classy Bonnes-Mares with strong potential. This and the Chambertin really call for seven or eight years of cellaring, while most of Potel's 2003 premier crus will probably be at their best within three or four years after their release.
Spicy, very rich and concentrated. Rather impressive and gorgeous already. Lots of sumptuous fruit. Lots of richness. (JR)
