Note di degustazione
It has been a long time since I tasted the 1988 Charmes-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru from Bachelet. This bottle has a charming red cherry and cranberry scented nose, touches of wilted rose petals and crushed stone. You might almost describe it as "lean", yet there is a real presence. The palate is sweet and slightly candied on the entry, structured and more like a Mazis-Chambertin in style, lightly spiced on its sublime finish. Tasted at a private dinner in Beaune.

Tasted at the Denis Bachelet dinner at Quality Chop House. This is the second time that I have tasted the Charmes-Chambertin 1988 from Denis Bachelet. This is the best bottle I have had. It has a crystalline precision on the nose that takes your breath away – dark cherry fruit, bergamot, black tea –I t's a bouquet that just makes you go "wow." The palate is brilliantly balanced with perfect acidity that just chimes. There is nervosité in this wine from beginning to end with laser-like precision on the finish. God invented grapes for wines like this.
