Punteggio 97/100 · Da bere 2019-2030, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Dec 2019

The 2005 Pinot Noir is quite simply unforgettable. A storm on June 3, during bloom, lowered yields dramatically, which is still felt today in the wine's textural intensity and overall richness. Powerful and ripe in feel, the 2005 offers a breathtaking interplay of soaring aromatics and deep fruit. Super-ripe red cherry, tobacco, cedar and leather are all pushed forward in a flat-out stunning Pinot from Mount Eden. Wow! Total production was just eight barrels from a total of 7 acres of vines.

Patterson replanted in the 1990s with mainly Dijon clones 115, 666 and 828. Since then he has used a meristemmed (cleaned) selection from Paul Masson. Brownish ruby but beautifully fresh, sweet fruit on the palate. Ferns on the nose. Dry finish. Very nervy and lively. A really interesting wine… Elephant on a tightrope. (JR)

Revealing a dark ruby color, the 2005 Pinot Noir Estate possesses a totally different set of aromatics, with more spice, earth, cinnamon, and herb characteristics. In the mouth, it exhibits tart acidity, cherry and pomegranate fruit flavors, and a less complete, shorter finish. It is a less accessible, spicier, earthy example of Pinot than the 2004. It is not nearly as exciting as the 2004. Tel. (888) 865-9463

Medium red. Fresh raspberry and candied cherry aromas are youthfully exuberant, with bright floral and mineral qualities adding energy. Vibrant red fruit flavors display a cool personality, with exotic blood orange and succulent herbs building with air. If the 2004 is Morey, this is Chambolle. I really like its energy and fruitiness.
