Punteggio 99/100 · Da bere 2027-2052, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Apr 2015

Every bit as moving as it was last year, the 2012 Chambertin will leave readers lucky enough to taste it weak at the knees. Unfortunately, very few people will ever taste the Dujac Chambertin, as the estate has decided to pull the wine from commercial release given the tiny production, even by Burgundy standards. With time in the glass a bevy of sweet rose petal, smoke, licorice, red cherry and plum notes flesh out, but it is the wine's magical balance that is most remarkable of all. Beg, borrow or steal. That's all I can say.

(cropped at just 15 hectoliters per hectare): Deep red with ruby tones. Profound, highly complex aromas of crushed small wild berries, smoky minerality and sexy musky soil tones. Thick and dense yet magically light on its feet, showing an understated character today owing to its perfectly harmonious acidity and noble, fine-grained tannins. Most impressive at present on the expanding whiplash of a finish, which features sappy, saline minerality and great energy.

Dujac's 2012 Chambertin is utterly captivating. It's as simple as that. A wine that conquers all of the senses, the Chambertin embodies all of the qualities that makes Pinot Noir so compelling. At once marvelously deep yet also elusive, the 2012 is a wine of pure intrigue. The interplay of dark blue/purplish fruit with seemingly endless textures and aromas is truly captivating. As in the past, the Chambertin is made from two parcels, the larger being in Clos de Bèze, while a second parcel lies in Chambertin itself. As is often the case, the essence of Bèze comes through loud and clear. What a magnificent wine this is.
