Punteggio 90/100 · Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, Aug 2014

I reviewed all of the 2011s last year, but was able to retaste them again this year as well. They showed beautifully and had barely budged since I last tasted them. They were in line with the prior reviews, with the Bloom’s Field showing some upside. A collaboration between Rajat Parr and Sashi Moorman, Domaine de la Cote focuses on Pinot Noir from the Sta. Rita Hills. Their estate vineyard is located as far west as you can go in the appellation and is southeast-facing, which gives it some shelter in this windswept AVA. The wines are made in focused, elegant style, and shine for their purity and precision. The 2012s, while still in barrel, have a touch more texture and richness, with no loss of purity. This is a rock-solid estate. www.domainedelacote.com

Domaine de la Côte's 2011 Pinot Noir Bloom's Field is exquisite. A seamless, harmonious wine, the 2011 impresses for its overall balance. Sweet floral aromatics meld into a core of expressive fruit as the wine opens up in the glass. This mid-weight, delicate Pinot is likely to offer its best drinking sooner rather than later. The 2011 has come together beautifully over the last year.

Silica subsoil and 90% whole bunch. Fermented in concrete and aged for 22 months in old barriques. Round, fresh sweet fruit. Very lively and fresh-fruited. Quite delicate – not a single hint of syrupiness. Firm finish with light but convincingly leathery tannins. A wine set for the long term, surely. (JR)

The 2011 Pinot Noir Bloom's Field comes across as big edgy and nervous. It may simply need more time for the 80% whole clusters to become fully integrated, as some slightly angular contours remain. Distinctly savory and spiced notes add complexity over time. There is plenty of potential here, but whether or not it is realized remains an open question. The 2011 was aged in one year-old Ermitage barrels.
