Note di degustazione
100% Godello from a small vineyard of 0.3 ha in Valtuille de Abajo (El Bierzo) planted in 1995. Sandy soil oriented towards the east. Spontaneous fermentation in 1,500-litre oak foudres, with the development of a spontaneous flor-yeast veil in spring. Matured in the foudres for 1 – 2 years. Not fined nor filtered. 1,400 bottles produced. Tasted blind. A style full of creaminess in a wine perceived as mature and lactic. Heavy in fruit and appetising, although I think the creamy side is a bit excessive, and with obvious notes of toast and sweet spices. It balances itself on the sweet side. Terrific in texture, but the oak is dominant. (FC)

The nose of the 2017 Ultreia La Claudina changed tremendously in the glass. It started off with more oxidative notes and became fresher with time, gaining notes of lemon curd and curry (it always develops a veil of flor yeasts), nuanced and with a complex palate where the flavors are integrated with the acidity and give it length and freshness. The difference with vintages prior to 2016 is that, because there was less wine, it was not possible to age it in the oak foudre; instead, it matured in 700-liter oak barrels. It comes from a plot of sandy soils that delivers wines of finesse and freshness. There are some 1,600 bottles.
