The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon West Block Clone 4 is a powerhouse. It was sourced from the same West Block at BV#10. A potent, brooding wine, the 2001 exudes intensity and structure. It doesn’t have the finesse of the West Block, but it has aged well. I would prefer to drink this over the next few years, as the edges are starting to fray. Even so, the 2001 has certainly held up well.

The most evolved, the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 4, comes from an old Beaulieu Private Reserve vineyard. It exhibits sweet loamy soil, kirsch, black currant, cedar and spice box characteristics in its full-bodied, soft, silky, sexy personality. Enjoy it over the next 7-8 years. Recent vintages from Tor Kenward probably eclipse what he achieved early in his solo winemaking career, but both of these nearly fully mature 2001s are outstanding. Tel. (707) 963-3100
Medium red-ruby color. Aromas of currant, plum liqueur, tobacco and smoked meat, lifted by a suggestion of wildflower. Pure and firmly built, with currently reticent flavors of dark fruits, licorice and spices. This rather firmly tannic cabernet calls for five years of additional cellaring.
The 2001 Tor Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 4 West Block offers a dense ruby/purple color in addition to gorgeous cassis, sweet black cherries, and vanilla notes in an opulent, licorice-infused aromatic smorgasbord. This full-bodied, seamless beauty can be drunk early in life, but will keep for 12-15 years. Kudos to Tor Kenward for breaking into the fine wine market with this serious offering.
