Aromas of smoke, leather and hints of asphalt and dark berries, following through to a full body, chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Shows well balanced tannin tension. Tasted before bottling. Drink after 2021.

A rich, oaky offering, the 2017 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru bursts from the glass with aromas of incense, toasty new wood and earthy dark fruits. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, chewy and firm, seemingly somewhat overly marked by its oak tannins, though it may come around with further élevage.

Cask sample. Dark crimson and quite concentrated. Almost painful levels of acid and, especially, tannin. I worry that the fruit may always be dominated by the tannin. (JR)
