Carter makes his 2014 Proprietary Red Hossfeld Coliseum, which is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, from a relatively obscure vineyard back on Soda Canyon Road in Southern Napa Valley. This wine is big, chewy, chocolaty and mocha-infused wine with black cherry and blackcurrant fruit, loads of texture, lushness and a heady, chewy finish. It is sexy wine and there are 193 cases of it. Drink it over the next decade.

The 2014 Hossfeld Red Blend is once again one of the real gems in this lineup. Silky, voluptuous and racy, the 2014 packs a serious punch, but the fruit nearly covers the tannins. Dark red cherry, chocolate, spice and menthol all make an appearance, but it is the wine's pure power and structure that stand out most. This is a fabulous wine from Mark Carter.
