Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2025-2040, Jeb Dunnuck, Dec 2025

Deep plum-hued, the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Fay offers powerful, ripe, yet lively aromatics of black fruits, sappy flowers, graphite, and lead pencil. Aged 20 months in 100% new French oak, it's medium to full-bodied, has a supple, layered mouthfeel, moderate mid-palate depth, and ripe, building tannins. It has a more forward, front end-loaded style (which is the vintage) yet should still evolve nicely for 10-15 years in cold cellars. If you need to buy a 2022, this is a good one. Drink 2025-2040.

The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Fay is a very pretty, elegant wine. A dollop of Cabernet Franc (8%) lends notable freshness. Bright red-toned fruit, blood orange, cedar and sweet pipe tobacco are nicely delineated. Overall, the Fay is a bit light in texture, but its balance is very fine.

Fiadh Ruadh's 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon must be among the smallest-production dry wines this taster has ever reviewed (12 cases), from an undisclosed site in the heart of Oakville. Owner-winemaker Nova Cadamatre has turned out an admirable successor to her 2018. It boasts bold aromas of ripe cherries, loamy earth and vanilla, while the full-bodied palate is plush and velvety, with a long finish. Readily approachable, it appears to have the requisite balance and concentration to drink well for at least another 15 years.

This beautifully balanced and layered wine offers delicious red- and black-cherry aromas, showing full, ripe flavors of succulent blueberries and blackberries with accents of cedar, graphite, iron and spearmint. It exhibits the polished, suave nature of Stags Leap District reds, overcoming a challenging vintage. Drink now or hold.
