The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Promiscua is very fine. Sumptuous black fruit, gravel, dried herbs, lavender and coffee notes are nicely amplified. This shows the richness of the year melded together with low yields and classic structure. A dollop of Merlot from Quartz Creek in the blend is expertly judged.

Mainly derived from the winery's Quartz Creek (Oak Knoll District) and Sorenson (Crystal Springs of Napa Valley) Vineyards, the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Promiscua is a blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc, aged 22 months in 30% new French oak. It's a red-fruited offering, delivering ripe cherries and redcurrants. Just medium-bodied, it is a bit softer and less age-worthy than the single-vineyard Cabernets here but still remains fresh and vibrant, with ample length on the finish.

Wine has been made at Burgess since the 1870s, but was established in its current guise when Tom Burgess purchased the property in 1972. The property has 24 hectares across two vineyards on Howell Mountain. As of 2020, it is owned by Gaylon Lawrence Jr of Heitz, Stony Hill and more.
