The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Tench Vineyard is made from 96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple in color, it comes barreling out of the glass with bold notes of black cherries, chocolate mint, blackcurrant pastilles and fragrant earth, plus touches of unsmoked cigars and cast-iron pan. The concentrated, full-bodied palate is laden with black berry layers, supported by velvety tannins and bold freshness, finishing on a lingering mineral note. The wine was aged for 18 months in 100% new French oak and has an alcohol of 14.9%. 190 cases were made.

From a vineyard that continues to impress, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Tench Vineyard has lots of iron and almost bloody nuances as well as darker berry and currant fruits, full-bodied richness, ripe yet building tannins, and a great finish. It has the vintage’s pure, focused style, and I suspect it’s going to put on weight with 2-4 years of bottle age and keep for two decades.
Powerful and explosive in the glass, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Tench Vineyard hits the palate with tremendous depth. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, leather and sweet spice are endowed with tons of richness in a full-throttle Cabernet Sauvignon that will delight readers who enjoy the more flamboyant side of Napa Valley. I would cellar the 2018 for a few years, as the tannins are pretty imposing at this stage.
