Lastly, I was able to taste the 2012 Pinot Noir Durell Vineyard, and it’s always educational to see how the wines develop with a few years in bottle. A wine that saw 13-14 months on lees, and a total of 15-18 months in barrel, bottled unfiltered, it offers beautiful notes of subtle strawberries, rose petals, white cherries and spice in a seamless, ultra-fine, elegant style that’s drinking beautifully. I like it now, but there’s no reason it won’t continue evolving gracefully through 2022.

Bright ruby-red. Sexy, high-pitched aromas of fresh raspberry, Asian spices and white pepper, with a bright mineral topnote. Spicy and incisive on the palate, offering deep red berry and bitter cherry flavors and a touch of candied rose. Dusty tannins add grip to the strikingly long spicy, floral finish.
Leather, sweet spices, autumn leaves, dried herbs and dried red fruit are all laced together in the 2012 Pinot Noir Durell Vineyard. The style is distinctly sweet, spiced and silky. Overall, the 2012 is a solid effort, but this vineyard is capable of more.
