The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées 1er Cru has an intense nose with pure dark berry and crushed stone aromas, focused and delineated. There's a bit of gusto here that is missing in some of its peers, yet there is some VA that worsens in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins that provide ample backbone. Fresh and focused, this has more energy than many others from Chambolle. Eventually, the wood tannins take over as it dries out alarmingly in the glass. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.

There are three and a half barrels of the spectacular 2018 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées, a stunning young wine that blossoms in the glass with a complex bouquet of wild berries, rose hips, warm spices, sweet soil tones and subtle hints of grilled squab. Medium to full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, it's layered and concentrated, built around exquisitely refined tannins and an ample core of succulent fruit.
The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées 1er Cru comprises three-and-a-half barrels. It has one of the richer bouquets from the domaine, yet still very well defined, with copious dark cherries and raspberry aromas, becoming more floral with aeration. The palate is slightly creamy in texture and very harmonious, offering good acidity, dark cherries mixed with blackberry and cedar and a little white pepper toward the finish, where I would just like to see more red fruit develop. Very fine.
