Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Veroilles 2011 has a stalky, slightly herbaceous nose, although it seems well defined with scorched earth scents developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chalky tannins. The acidity is racy and cuts through the licorice-tinged black fruit on the lively and tensile finish. This is a very fine Chambolle-Musigny that should drink well for 12 to 15 years.

A totally crystalline, nuanced wine, the 2011 Chambolle-Musigny Les Veroilles is all about tension and vibrancy. Dark blue and black fruit, new leather, mint and savory herbs come alive in the glass. I very much like the sense of energy here. The Veroilles has quite a bit to offer, but most of that will only come with further time in bottle.
Good medium red. Ripe aromas of purple fruit, crushed stone and minerals, accented by a slightly raw peppery note. Rich, broad and silky on entry, then closed and a bit dry in the middle. Ultimately less satisfying and consistent than the Fuees, with the tannins more obvious today. This wine needs four or five years to gain in precision.
