The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru has a cohesive bouquet with brambly red fruit, sous-bois , crushed stone and light tobacco scents. There is some reduction at play and in fact, it becomes stronger with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with pure red fruit on the entry, cranberry and raspberry, quite taut and linear with a Morey-like austerity that feels fresh, but serious, on the finish. Fine, but it needs some bottle age. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.

Dramatic and enveloping, the 2018 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes soars from the glass with an expressive bouquet of raspberries, cherries and plums mingled with candied peel, sweet soil tones and raw cocoa. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and textural, it's rich and concentrated while remaining lively and beautifully defined, concluding with a long and rose-inflected finish.
Cask sample. Some perfume and structure on this sample, with quite a bit of tannin! Drying finish. (JR)
