Punteggio 92+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2013

(Dugat bottled his 2010s in February of 2012): Good bright, dark red. Brooding aromas and flavors of dark berry confiture and bitter chocolate. Fat and sweet but brooding, with lively acidity giving energy to the middle palate. Finishes with very strong and rather strict tannins. If the Charmes and Griottes need 8+ years in the cellar, this one calls for 10 or 12. Claude Dugat told me he "almost prefers" his 2011s to his 2010s, as he finds the earlier vintage to be too robust and muscular. This Chapelle must be what he's referring to.

The 2010 Chapelle-Chambertin flows across the palate with a weightless, elegant expression of fruit that is hard to capture with words. Deceptively medium in body, the wine possesses gorgeous mid-palate depth and definition. Despite its tremendous energy, today the Chapelle is quite close and ultimately reveals just a hint of its potential.

(Not yet released) Claude Dugat’s 2010s are fabulous. The wines have a sense of tension and transparency that serves to balance the richness of the fruit that is the hallmark of the house style. Good dark red. Wild aromas of black cherry, licorice and violet. Larger-scaled than the Griottes but drier and more saline, and less expressive in the middle today. A masculine style, even a bit brutal. Finishes very long, with substantial tannins that will require a good eight to ten years to harmonize with the wine's fruit.
