The 2009 Morey St. Denis Millandes is fabulous. It boasts a great combination of rich, dark fruit and powerful structure. Today the wine is already starting to shut down, something that bodes quite well for the future. Mint, flowers, spices and licorice stain the palate on the deep, resonant finish. Good bright, deep red. Reticent aroma of medicinal dark fruits and menthol. In a distinctly backward, dry, savory style; full-bodied, masculine wine, a bit cool in the context of the vintage. Finishes with granular, tongue-saturating tannins that call for at least seven or eight years of cellaring.
A bit austere at the moment. Fine and chewy. Rather polished but difficult to read at present. Vital. (JR)
Good full red. Red fruits, underbrush and menthol on the nose. Densely packed and firmly built; a distinctly robust, powerful style with impressive stuffing. The flavors of cherry, chocolate and wild herbs reminded me of Clos de la Roche. Finishes with broad, spreading, serious tannins that are supported by the wine's sweet, chunky middle palate. Very strong for this cuvee
