Note di degustazione
Deep ruby/purple-colored, the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape (100% Grenache from the Pignan lieu-dit) gives up a wild, savage bouquet of plums, cherries, wild herbs, earth, and underbrush. It's juicy, clean and balanced, with an exotic style. I suspect it will drink reasonably well on release, yet it should age gracefully as well.

After how much I enjoyed the 2015, the prebottling sample of the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape from Domaine des Saumades was a bit of a disappointment. It boasts forward cherry and raspberry fruit, but it lacks purity and also includes notes of horse blanket and adhesive bandages that detract from the overall enjoyment of the wine. This all-Grenache cuvée, from the lieu-dit of Pignan, is full-bodied and open-knit, with a slightly coarse mouthfeel. Drink it on release and over the next several years.
Brilliant ruby. Dried cherry, raspberry, lavender and a hint of gaminess on the pungent nose. Smooth and energetic in the mouth, offering bitter cherry and licorice flavors that turn sweeter with air. Finishes with solid grip, repeating gaminess and smooth tannins that come in steadily.
Perfumed and expressive nose – aniseed, violet, black cherry, spice. The palate has some volatile acetic notes, but not so much as to become distracting. Bright acidic zing on the finish. (RH)
