The 2023 Pinot Noir Mae Estate is among the more high-toned Pinot Noirs in the range, opening with an elegant, spice-driven bouquet supported by beaming red fruits and crushed stone aromas. It offers a bit more textural power on the palate, which is otherwise silky and tensile as it carries into a chalky, earth-tinged finish framed by stem-derived tannins.

Organically farmed, north–south orientation. Planted in 2016 on clay-loam and sandy loam formed over siliceous shale and marine sediment, at 250–300 ft of elevation. Fermented with native yeast in open-top wooden vats with partial whole-cluster inclusion (around 50%), employing a combination of punchdowns and pumpovers, followed by an 18-month élevage in 50% new 228-litre French oak barrels. Transparent crimson. Light and fresh, almost severe on the palate, it’s so dry, bracing. Very gentle texture. Still quite youthful, and textured. (JR)
